Retired sheriff Patrick J. Sullivan Jr. was arrested in November in a suburb of Denver and charged with distributing methamphetamine to men in exchange for sex. Sullivan, who had a distinguished career as Arapahoe County sheriff, was booked into the Patrick J. Sullivan Jr. Detention Center, named for him after he retired in 2002. [Denver Post, 11-30-2011]

Eldon Alexander, 36, and Ms. Korin Vanhouten, 47, had two different encounters with Ogden, Utah, police on Dec. 15. First, they were issued misdemeanor citations after being accused of shoplifting at a WinCo Foods store. They were released and walked out to their car in the parking lot, but summoned the police when they discovered that while they were busy shoplifting, someone had broken into their car and stolen a stereo. (The shoplifted items were worth about $25, the stereo about $60.) [Deseret News (Salt Lake City), 12-16-2011]

Sheriff's deputies arrested novelist Nancy Mancuso Gelber, 53, in December in Bryan, Texas, after she had allegedly arranged a hit on her husband. (The "hit man," of course, was an undercover officer.) Gelber said she had walked in on the husband romancing with one of her friends, and the couple were in the process of divorcing (complicated by his having removed her from his health insurance just as she was scheduled for expensive surgery). Gelber is the author of the 2010 "crime thriller," "Temporary Amnesia," and told the "hit man" that she was quite familiar with investigative procedures (though obviously poor at spotting undercover officers). The Litigious Society

Jesse Dimmick filed a lawsuit in Topeka, Kan., in October against Jared and Lindsay Rowley -- whom he has been convicted of kidnapping in a notorious 2009 episode that resulted in his being shot by police. Dimmick broke into the home and held the couple hostage at knifepoint, but now says that, during the siege, the couple made him an "oral contract," "legally binding," that they would help him hide if he would sometime later pay them an unspecified amount of money. According to the lawsuit, since Dimmick was subsequently shot (accidentally, said the Topeka police), his injuries were the result of the Rowleys breaching the contract to hide him safely. (Police, who had surrounded the home, arrested Dimmick when he fell asleep.) [Topeka Capital-Journal, 11-28-2011]

The two men who heroically pulled a woman out of a burning car wreck in 2009, and surely (according to a highway patrol officer on the scene) saved her life, have sued the woman for the emotional and physical disabilities that resulted from the episode (brought to light in an August 2011 Associated Press report). David Kelley and Mark Kincaid not only stopped voluntarily to help, but were the only ones on the scene capable of pulling the woman to safety. (The fire was so hot that it melted Kelley's cellphone.) Kelley said he has suffered serious breathing problems and cannot avoid horrific dreams reliving the episode. The woman, Theresa Tanner, subsequently admitted that she deliberately crashed the car that day in a suicide attempt. [Associated Press, 8-1-2011]

A British manufacturer, BCB International, is flourishing, buoyed by sales of its Kevlar underwear, at $65 a pair, to U.S. military personnel in Afghanistan and Iraq. However, soldiers and Marines must buy them directly; the "Bomb Boxers" are not supplied by the Pentagon even though nearly 10 percent of battlefield explosive-device injuries result in sometimes-catastrophic genital and rectal damage. According to an October report in Talking Points Memo, the Pentagon's currently issued protection is inferior to BCB's but is less expensive. (Although the Pentagon fully funds post-injury prostheses and colostomies, it could purchase about 7,700 Bomb Boxers for the price of a single Tomahawk missile.) [Talking Points Memo, 10-18-2011]

The New York Jets have suspended Sal Alosi indefinitely after the team got "new information" that the strength and conditioning coach "instructed" five players to stand in a wall before he tripped Dolphins player Nolan Carroll on Sunday.

Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum announced the punishment after Alosi was suspended for the rest of the season and fined $25,000 on Monday.

"Over the last day as we continued our investigation we discovered some new information," Tannenbaum said. "The players at the Miami game were instructed by Sal to stand where they were forcing the gunner in the game to run around them. Based on that new information we've suspended Sal indefinitely, pending further review."

NFL vice president of football operations Ray Anderson has reviewed the play and he said what Alosi ordered was illegal. At the owners meetings in Fort Worth, Texas, he cited two NFL rules about where players, coaches and support staff are supposed to stand.

When asked if they were in violation of the rules, Anderson said: "Yes."

This isn't the first time Alosi has ordered players to line up either, according to a player who was on the wall on Sunday.

"We've been doing that since the beginning of the year, standing right there. Sunday was not the first time that we'd been doing that," Jets tight end Jeff Cumberland said.

"I mean, throughout the season you know things are going to happen but you never expect this to happen."

Cumberland said Alosi didn't explain to the players why they were lined up.

"He never really just gave a reason," Cumberland said. "He just said during punt return, 'You just stand right here by this line, everybody just stand right here.' There wasn't really a reason why. But we kinda figured just in case somebody ran over here."

Tannenbaum said as soon as the team learned the new information, the Jets contacted Anderson.

"They support this initial decision that we presented to them," Tannenbaum said. "The league is going to look into this as well, as well they should. Once we get all the information we'll make a final determination."

Tannenbaum added that not only what Alosi did affected his punishment but how he handled the fallout. The general manager said Alosi wasn't forthright when the team spoke to him on Monday.

"It's really for the totality of the situation -- the unsportsmanlike act," Tannenbaum said. "We didn't have all of the information on Monday. Over the course of the next few days more information came out and that really doesn't sit well with us, and that's why we felt this additional step was necessary."

Tannenbaum was clear in what happened on the sideline Sunday.

"Specifically, when Miami was punting they were asked to stand there by him," he said.

Tannenbaum said Alosi acted alone, he wasn't told by anyone in the organization to instruct players to stand in a line. Addressing the media Monday, Alosi claimed he wasn't instructed by anyone to create a human wall.

Cumberland backed that stance when asked if anyone else asked him to stand in the line. "Just Sal," he said.

Tannenbaum and coach Rex Ryan said Monday the players aren't coached to do that.

Tannenbaum said the team looked at game film of the play and "it looked to me like it was unusual for them to be standing that way." The Jets interviewed the players who were standing near Alosi, but will not take any action against them.

"This is just about Sal," Tannenbaum said.

Could Alosi be fired for the move?

"All options are certainly on the table. We're going to complete the review and get all the information," Tannenbaum said. "[Special-teams coach] Mike Westhoff was not involved, Rex Ryan was not involved, but we just want to be thorough and get all the information."

Westhoff told ESPNNewYork.com on Wednesday that he was not teaching players to line up in formations to impede play. He said that he would never condone being in a position to injure a player from the sidelines.

"You'd have to be a sick individual to have that in mind," Westhoff said.

He added that he felt bad for Alosi, who he said had a lapse in judgment.

"I think the whole thing is silly," Westhoff said. "I don't see a purpose served. I truly don't. I just don't see an advantage."

Westhoff said in a Wednesday visit with the Waddle & Silvy Show on ESPN 1000 in Chicago that he didn't know what Alosi was doing.

"I had nothing to do with it, just to be honest with you," Westhoff said. "I didn't even know we were doing it. There was some organization to it."

But he also said he's noticed the Jets aren't the only team lining up on the sidelines during punts. The Patriots engage in similar tactics, he said.

"A number of teams do it," Westhoff said. "There is a pretty good team up north that lines their whole defense up when they do it, so it's something that just kind of happened."

Asked if he's saying the Patriots line up players to impede punt coverage teams, Westhoff elaborated: "Well, if you watch them, their defense when the opponents' punt team is out there, they're up there pretty close to the line, so it looks like they are trying to do it. Now are they doing anything illegal? Are they tripping anybody, heck no. I'm not saying that. That's not the point. But, yeah, they're lined up there. Is it making a difference? I don't know. I really don't know, because to tell you the truth, before this happened I never really looked at anybody's sideline in all my years."

The league is trying to formulate a standard for plays along the sideline.

"Ray Anderson and his staff are reviewing and clarifying sideline protocols with the teams at today's league meeting in Fort Worth and will follow up with a memo to the clubs this week," NFL spokesperson Greg Aiello said in an e-mail.

Player sentiment was united behind Alosi. Quarterback Mark Sanchez and linebacker Bart Scott referred to their strength and conditioning coach as a teammate.

"I'm sure, maybe in his way, he was doing what he could to help the team win," Scott said. "He's paying a hefty price. But, like with all things, he's like a teammate. He's no different from Braylon [Edwards] who had his adversity or Santonio [Holmes] or anybody. You stand behind your teammate. Hopefully he gets through it."

Wide receiver Brad Smith said he has been in Carroll's shoes.

"I've been the flier," he said. "I didn't know if you see a wall necessarily, but nobody's really going to move to get out of the way if you're running on the sideline. It happens every now and again, not necessarily hitting a guy, but people are there and you have to avoid them."

He said that it can be hazardous.

"Sometimes they try to push them into a kicking net or whatever obstacle is on the sideline," Smith said. "They're taught to just get the guy and slow him down in any kind of way."

Former Miami Dolphins linebacker Zach Thomas had accused the Jets on Tuesday of deliberately forming a wall on their sideline to influence the Dolphins' gunner.

Thomas is part of a growing faction that believes Alosi wasn't acting alone.

"They had to be ordered to stand there because they're foot to foot," Thomas said Tuesday on Miami radio station WQAM. "There's four of them, side to side -- five of them, I mean -- on the edge of the coaches' zone. They're only out there to restrict the space of the gunner.

"But there's more to it because I'm telling you, the only thing [Alosi] did wrong was intentionally put that knee out there. If he just stood there, there would never have been a problem, even if the guy got tripped. But there's more to this. He was ordered to stand there. No one is foot to foot on the sideline in the coaches' box."

There was a six-man line, starting with Alosi and defensive lineman Marcus Dixon (inactive). It's believed the other four also were inactive players. They were in a tight formation, almost like soccer players preparing to defend a direct kick. Their toes were right up against the boundary, with Alosi positioned in the corner of the coaches' box.

Westhoff said he spoke to Thomas about his comments Tuesday that it was obvious the Jets had set up a wall. Westhoff said they are very close and that those comments made him look culpable: "The fact that it's associated with teams, then it comes back to me."

Carroll said Wednesday he has found it difficult to get away from replays of the tripping episode.

He said he has seen the replay on TV more times than he can count.

"The past couple of days it has been continuous, every channel I turn to," he said, shaking his head. "I'm just trying to watch TV. I can't get away from it."

The contact of the trip did cause a muscle spasm in Carroll's right leg, which he broke last year, but he later returned to the game.

The Dolphins reserve said he has received lots of text messages and phone calls from concerned friends in the wake of the incident. He's trying to put the incident behind him and isn't worried about what the Jets do to Alosi.

"It's their problem," Carroll said. "It's not my problem. I've moved on from it. What they do in New York, they've got to deal with that."

Shortly after the game, Alosi apologized by phone to Carroll and Dolphins coach Tony Sparano.

"I'm glad he called me," Carroll said. "He admitted it to me, like a man. He was sorry."

The actor and martial-arts expert became a real-life honorary Texas Ranger on Thursday after playing one on television for years.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry presented the 70-year-old star and executive director of "Walker, Texas Ranger" with a designation as an honorary member of the famed law enforcement group.

Norris' younger brother, 59-year-old stunt coordinator and producer Aaron Norris, also became an honorary Ranger.

Argentinean man arrested for allegedly fathering 10 kids with daughter

(CNN) -- An Argentinean court has charged and ordered the arrest of a man who allegedly fathered ten children with his daughter, a local government agency reported Saturday.

A court in Reconquista, in the province of Santa Fe, alleged that the man violated his daughter for 30 years, the Santa Fe government's web site reported.

Other cases of sexual abuse were reported in the area 2009, triggering a special inquiry, the government site reported.

Renconquista judge Virgilio Palud was quoted by the government site as claiming that family-based "sexual abuse is common currency in the north of Santa Fe."

The judge said that two other cases of men fathering children with their daughters have been reported in nearby provinces, the site said.

In April 2008, the world was shocked by the secret life of Josef Fritzl, the so-called "Monster of Austria" who fathered seven children with his daughter, who he kept in confinement.

"This case is more serious than the one in Austria," Palud was quoted as saying in a Santa Fe newspaper.

Palud said the Santa Fe woman had been raped since she was 13 and that she was regularly threatened by her father.

The government site does not give the name of the accused father or his daughter.

The site quoted Palud as saying that the oldest child born to the pair committed suicide when he learned that his grandfather was also his father.

Court-ordered DNA tests proved the veracity of the story, the government site reported. The woman, now 43, has children ranging from age 7 to 27.

NEW YORK (AP) - Me want "Saturday Night Live!"

Cookie Monster has made an audition tape to convince "SNL" that he can host the show. "Sesame Street" posted the video Wednesday on YouTube and Facebook .

Introducing the tape, Cookie Monster says he wants to "branch out beyond me cookie-eating career." The four-minute video follows with Cookie Monster doing a run-through of an episode of "Saturday Night Live."

He performs a brief opening monologue, a "MacGruber"-like sketch dubbed "Macarooner," a few "Weekend Update" jokes and a musical guest appearance as "Monster Gaga."

Cookie Monster likely wants to follow Betty White's lead. The 88-year-old White hosted an episode of "SNL" earlier this year after a Facebook campaign urged such casting.

NBC did not comment.

The feds needs to get hobbies that do not involve screwing the public out of money. This is another stupid law that will not help anyone besides street departments wanting overtime.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WGRZ) -- Street signs in the area may look perfectly fine, but thanks to the federal government, the vast majority will have to come down.

Due to new orders coming from Washington, signs in all upper case font will eventually have to be replaced.

Congressman Brian Higgins disagrees with the mandate from the Federal Highway Administration and the US Department of Transportation. Those particular agencies say signs with upper and lower case letters are easier to read.

Local highway departments have until 2018 in most cases to replace the signs. Regulators hope most of the signs will just go in during routine replacement, but cities across the country say they'll shell out tens, if not hundreds of millions of dollars collectively to meet these new standards.

Even stop signs, yield signs and some others must also be replaced; this regulation calls for better reflectivity so the signs will show up better at night. These emergency signs must all be replaced by 2015.

The FHWA and USDOT say the new signs will benefit older drivers, who typically can't see as well, but Assemblyman Mark Schroeder's biggest concern is cost. He said the fiscal mess in Abany will be made worse by this new regulation.

In New York City alone, replacing the signs will cost around $27 million. Buffalo is still calculating the cost.

(CNN) -- Barbara Billingsley, who wore a classy pearl necklace and dispensed pearls of wisdom as America's quintessential mom on "Leave it to Beaver," has died at age 94, a family spokeswoman said Saturday.

The actress passed away at 2 a.m. (5 a.m. ET) Saturday at her home in Santa Monica, California, after a long illness, spokeswoman Judy Twersky said. A private memorial is being planned.

"She was as happy as a lark being recognized as America's mom," actor Tony Dow, who played Wally Cleaver, told CNN's Don Lemon. "She had a terrific life and had a wonderful impact on everybody she knew, and even people she didn't know."

Actor Jerry Mathers, who played Theodore "Beaver" Cleaver, spoke of Billingsley's talent during a 2000 appearance on CNN's "Larry King Live."

"Barbara was always a true role model for me. She was a great actress," he said. "And in a lot of ways ... we kind of stifled her, because her true talent didn't really come out in 'Leave it Beaver.' She was like the straight man, but she has an awful lot of talent."

The actress won a new legion of fans in a brief, but memorable, scene in the 1980 send-up movie "Airplane."

"Oh, stewardess. I speak jive," Billingsley said in her role -- much different from her June Cleaver persona -- as an elderly passenger comforting an ill man on the flight. She, the sick man and his seat companion engaged in street-slang banter.

From the moment its catchy theme song sounded in black-and-white TV sets of the 1950s, "Leave it to Beaver" enthralled Americans during a time of relative prosperity and world peace. Its characters represented middle-class white America.

June Cleaver dutifully pecked the cheek of her husband, Ward (played by the late Hugh Beaumont), when he came home to learn about the latest foibles -- nothing serious -- committed by Beaver and Wally.

The parents would dispense moralistic advice to their sons. The boys' friends included Lumpy and the obsequious Eddie Haskell, who avoided trouble and often buttered up Ward and June.

"That's a lovely dress you're wearing, Mrs. Cleaver," Eddie would typically say to Billingsley's character.

Perhaps fittingly, "Leave it to Beaver" was canceled in 1963 on the eve of the JFK assassination, the Vietnam War and the tumult of the 1960s.

In the 1980s, Dow appeared with Billingsley in "The New Leave it to Beaver." She shifted from being a mom figure to a good friend who supported his directing and artistic endeavors, Dow said.

"She always had a positive thing to say," said Dow, 65.

Born December 22, 1915, in Los Angeles, Billingsley began her career as a model in New York City in 1936.

She was under contract to MGM in 1945 before becoming a household name with the launch of "Leave it to Beaver" in 1957.

Billingsley also voiced the role of Nanny in Nickelodeon's "Muppet Babies" from 1984 to 1991.

Billingsley is related by marriage to actor/producer Peter Billingsley, known for his starring role as Ralphie in the seasonal TV-movie classic "A Christmas Story," according to the Internet Movie Database. Peter Billingsley's mother, Gail Billingsley, is the cousin of Barbara's first husband, Glenn.

Billingsley, whose second and third husbands predeceased her, is survived by her two sons, Drew Billingsley of Granada Hills, California, and Glenn Billingsley of Phillips Ranch, California.

Asked once to compare real-life families to TV families, Billingsley responded, "I just wish that we could have more families like those. Family is so important, and I just don't think we have enough people staying home with their babies and their children."

Legendary TV producer Stephen J. Cannell has died

Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- Television producer Stephen J. Cannell, known for his work on shows including "21 Jump Street" and "The A-Team," died Thursday, his publicist said. Cannell was 69.

Cannell died from complications associated with melanoma at his Pasadena, California, home surrounded by family and loved ones, said a family statement.

He created, wrote and produced several iconic TV series, starting in the 1970s with "The Rockford Files."

His other hit series included: "Greatest American Hero," "The A-Team," "Hunter," "Riptide," "Hardcastle & McCormick," "21 Jump Street," "Wiseguy," "The Commish," "Profit," and syndicated shows "Renegade" and "Silk Stalkings."

Viewers may best remember the trademark closing for Cannell's productions, which showed him at a typewriter tossing a sheet of paper over his shoulder.

He also acted, sometimes appearing in his own shows. Cannell had a recurring role on ABC-TV's hit series "Castle."

Cannell authored 16 novels, including the "Shane Scully" series.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marcia, three children and three grandchildren, the family said.

Cannell overcame severe dyslexia as a child growing up in Pasadena, and later became a spokesman for the International Dyslexia Associationand an advocate for children and adults with learning disabilities.

He formed an independent production company, Stephen J. Cannell Productions, in 1979, which gave him control and ownership of his shows.

His studio is developing feature film versions of several of his hit TV shows, including "21 Jump Street" and "The Greatest American Hero." "The A-Team" movie was released in theaters last summer.

Back in 1987 when the original video vixen, Tawny Kitaen, first cartwheeled atop her future ex-husband David Coverdale's Jaguar XL (and into metal fans' hearts) in Whitesnake's "Here I Go Again" video, she and the band probably had no idea how iconic that image would become. But this week, it was announced that the video has generated more than 10 million views on YouTube, after being available on the site for only a year. That may not sound too impressive compared to record-holder Justin Bieber's nearly 250 million spins, but considering that the "Here I Go Again" video made its MTV premiere 23 years ago (and that the song was actually first recorded in 1982), it's remarkable that it has held up so well.

Somehow this video has taken on a life of its own, inspiring parodies and tributes in American Dad!; the movies Talladega Nights, Death Proof, and Old School; and Bowling For Soup's "1985" music video. And apparently this has inspired a whole new generation to watch the legendary car clip--albeit online, not on Headbangers' Ball.

Yes, other memorable videos of the hair metal era have tallied up an impressive number of YouTube spins, some larger than the totals for videos by today's hitmakers--like Warrant's "Cherry Pie" (almost 700,000 views), Poison's "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" (about 4 million), Motley Crue's "Girls Girls Girls" (about 500,000), Guns N' Roses "Sweet Child O' Mine" (3.7 million), Van Halen's "Jump" (about 5 million), and Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It" (3.5 million). But none of them have close to the number of "Here I Go Again" plays. Probably because none of them have a gauze-swathed Tawny Kitaen rolling around on the hood of a luxury automobile.

Whitesnake still tour and record but, of course, are not quite the rock powerhouse they used to be. And Tawny has fallen on especially hard times, with multiple arrests and somewhat disturbing appearances on the VH1 reality shows The Surreal Life and Celebrity Rehab. But as long as "Here I Go Again" continues to generate spins online, both the band and the girl will forever be preserved in circa-'87 Spandex. It's doubtful that Bieber's "Baby" will still be racking up this kind of video numbers in the year 2033.

LEON, N.Y. (WIVB) - Cattaraugus County Sheriff's deputies have arrested a man they say tried to hold up an Amish couple in their buggy.

29-year-old Donald Pfaffenbach is charged with attempted robbery and menacing. Investigators say he demanded the wallet from the couple while they were in a buggy in Leon earlier this month. The husband and wife were not injured, and the bandit didn't get any cash.

Deputies say more arrests are pending.

A man who held up a bank while disguised as Star Wars villain Darth Vader is being hunted by police.

Customers in the New York bank were surprised to see the man walk in wearing the famous black mask and cape, and one started joking with him.

But the robber then pulled a gun and ordered the customer to the floor before ordering a bank clerk to stuff money in a bag. He then escaped on a motorbike.

Police investigating the robbery at a Long Island branch of Chase bank released the CCTV images in a bid to track down the raider.

LEON, N.Y. (WIVB) - (RELEASE) After an investigation performed by the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office, 17 year old Amish boy, Levi Detweiler, was arrested on counts of underage possession of alcohol, overdriving an animal, reckless endangerment and failure to stop at a stop sign.

The investigation found that Detweiler ran through a stop sign in the presence of Sheriff Deputies, an attempt was made to stop the buggy by Deputies and the suspect refused to stop.

The chase ensued for approximately 3/4 of a mile when the suspect attempted an unsafe turn in a driveway and crashed the horse and buggy.

The victim then exited the buggy and took off on foot, leaving the scene of the accident.

The suspect was later found in the area and was interviewed by detectives.

Two Amish males helped Deputies in freeing the horse from the crash and removing the buggy from the ditch.

The suspect was arrested on the charges and arraigned in Leon Court and bail was set at $500. He was remanded to the Cattaraugus. County Jail.

BUFFALO, N.Y. - He doesn't like being called a hero, but the two families he saved from a fire cannot think of a better way to describe him.

As he drove his No. 16 bus, filled with passengers, down South Park Avenue in South Buffalo at 6:30 a.m. Monday, driver Richard Lucas noticed smoke coming from the back of one of the homes.

"I decided it didn't look right so I stopped," Lucas, a three-year veteran of the N.F.T.A. said. "I ran up to the house and I beat on the front door."

The house was a two-family home, and the 10 people inside were sound asleep.

"Then I heard the bus driver banging on the door, and said 'get out,'" said Emily Hunter, who lived upstairs. "Then I grabbed my kids, my nephew and ran out the door, and was just in flames."

Juan Huertas, who lived downstairs with his wife and three children, said they all could have died without Lucas.

"I woke up to a guy screaming in the house," Huertas said. "I had no idea who it was, and then I heard my wife screaming get out of the house. "

Hunter started to tear up when described what Lucas had done.

"I just wanted to thank the bus driver. That's my guardian angel," she said."

But none of the people inside had the opportunity to personally thank Lucas. Once everyone was safely out of the home, Lucas jumped back onto the bus and finished his route.

"I knew I had to be at the Victory Center," Lucas said. "People have got to go to work. That's what we do."

REPORTER: There were 10 people inside, who were asleep, who are probably alive today because of you. How do you feel about that?

LUCAS: Alright, I guess (tears in his eyes). Hold on.

He asked us top stop for a moment because he was overcome with emotion. he then acknowledged that the magnitude of what had happened was still sinking in.

"When I ended up talking to my mother and i talked to my two sisters, sort of, it hits home," Lucas said. "You realize that maybe you did do something different. Something that, you had a chance to do and you made the right choice."

REPORTER: When you finally get to see him, what would you like to say to him?

HUNTER: Just thank you, hug him. Thank you. He saved my kids life and my own.

Lucas, who was back at work Tuesday, said he was going to call the families after his shift.
